Safety Screening Registration

What is the safety screening for and how do I book one?

If you are new to the BC Brain Wellness Program’s exercise and/or yoga classes, please register below to book a safety screening assessment. These assessments are done virtually over video and their purpose is to help determine an appropriate level of activity for you. Please note, assessments are required for participation in our exercise and yoga programs. Screenings for dance classes are optional, but recommended.


To book an assessment, please follow these steps:

  1. Click on the button below for the type of virtual assessment you’d like to book for. This will take you to our booking page.

  2. Select the date and time that works best for you.

  3. You will then be prompted to create a Jane account with the BC Brain Wellness Program. Please do this. If you have an existing account with us, you can log in instead.

  4. Fill in the intake form. If you are unable to complete this form, please inform your practitioner during your assessment and they will review it with you.

Below are the types of virtual assessments we offer:

  • Virtual Initial Assessment: Please book this type of appointment if you are new to the program and plan on participating in our online exercise/yoga classes.

  • Virtual Long Covid Virtual Initial Assessment: Please book this type of appointment if you are new to the program, plan on participating in our online exercise classes, and are experiencing Long COVID symptoms.

  • Virtual Reassessment: Please book this type of appointment if you have previously done a safety assessment and are looking to be reassessed.

The entire assessment process is done on Jane: a secure and encrypted telehealth platform. This is a different platform from Omnify, which is used for online class bookings. Once you have booked your appointment you will be emailed instructions to access the video call the day before your assessment.

Please note BC Brain Wellness Program classes are intended for residents of British Columbia only.

What to expect during the safety screening:

The appointment will take roughly 45 - 60 mins, and will be done virtually. You will chat about your current level of activity and be asked to perform some basic testing of balance and strength (e.g. getting up from a chair). This allows us to make sure your workout area is nice and safe, allows us to recommend classes that might work best for you, and aids with the research side of the program.

For your assessment, you will require some light equipment:

  • Straight back chair with no armrests (if possible)

  • Tape measure

  • Tape (to stick on to wall/floor for marking)

  • Yoga mat or carpeted area

  • Weights

We strongly suggest using a computer or laptop with a camera for this assessment. If you have technical difficulties, please let us know.

Privacy Notification: When you book an assessment, your personal information is collected under the authority of section 26(c) of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA). This information will be used to assess, treat, and make appropriate recommendations for you. Questions about the collection of this information may be directed to brain.wellness@ubc.ca.
