Mindfulness and Feeling Tone

Summer Mindfulness Meditation, based on Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, Jon Kabat-Zinn and Deeper Mindfulness, Mark Williams and Danny Penman.

We will explore some basic mindfulness concepts and then look more deeply into feeling tone or Vedana. Feeling tone is one of the basic components of Buddhist philosophy. When we have a thought, it can be pleasant, unpleasant or neutral. We have all noticed through mindfulness practice, we have a lot of thoughts!

Usually, we try to return to our breath and not spend too much time on this exploration. Here we will concentrate on investigating feeling tone arising as a result of our thoughts and the body’s reaction to the thought. We will look at what goes on in our minds with awe when we realize that our busy mind is just trying to help us through our complicated lives. When we have awareness, we have choice as to how we will continue.

David will be teaching in May and Linda will teach June and July. David's initial 4 weeks will be intro-level mindfulness to help prepare for the MBSR modules in Linda's sessions.

As the course learning is cumulative, if you have missed the first 2 weeks, you are encouraged to register for the following term.
